Visit NYC Resistor for Gowanus Open Studios 2019, Oct 19-20

NYC Resistor will be participating in Gowanus Open Studios 2019 on October 19th & 20th from 12 pm to 6 pm each day.

Come by our space to see projects made by NYC Resistor members and public craft night attendees. We want to show examples of the creative projects that our makerspace tools and resources help bring to life.

This event will also be a good opportunity to learn about our space and ways we can help you explore your own creativity. Members will be on hand to give tours and talk about the classes, activities and resources we offer regularly throughout the year.

Call for makers: If you’ve made stuff at Resistor and you are interested in sharing to represent our community, send an email to contact@nycresistor.com

Gowanus Open Studios is the annual event where 400+ artists in the Gowanus area open their doors to share their creative spaces and art with the general public. Wander around the neighborhood to see a wide variety of local art and to chat with artists about their work.

For more info visit www.artsgowanus.org. There you can browse the full directory of participating artists and view an interactive map of studio locations. Check out the Arts Gowanus Instagram for highlighted artists: http://www.instagram.com/artsgowanus

NYC Resistor will also have a limited number of printed maps available that you can take with you to navigate the neighborhood.

Trumpcare® IUD Launch

700 Trumpcare® intrauterine devices (IUD) were created as an art installation. The exclusive product launch is at SSHH, 516 6th St. NYC on Friday 13th from 6p -9p. Afterparty: YES. Viewings will be available Saturday September 14th and Sunday September 15th from 2p-7p.

Come have a drink with us and share the anxiety.

An IUD is wrapped in copper and inserted by a doctor into a uterus.  It works by releasing copper ions into the cervix which creates a hostile environment for sperm. IUDs are more than 99% effective as a form of birth control.

700 IUDs were designed in Rhino, high-resolution 3D printed in China with SLA plastic, and hand-wound with copper. Thanks to all the supporters who came out to NYC Resistor on multiple occasions to hand-wind IUDs.

We got a little press! We love Dezeen and we’re honored to be included!

Dance at Resistor, for science!

Bill Nye the Science Guy stands center frame in a while button up shirt, black suspenders, and classic bow tie. He throws his arms up and head back as the lights flash. The word 'SCIENCE!!!' is along the bottom of the image in gray.

Calling all Resistors and friends: We need you for a special project at the 23 August open Craft Night.

Alex is a PhD student studying astrophysics who wants to help make science accessible to the public via the medium of interpretive dance. He’s making a video for the Dance Your PhD contest and needs an ensemble of dancers to communicate that his data analysis methods will be applied to billions of never-before-observed galaxies. Don’t dance? No problem! If you can do the hokey pokey, you can dance this PhD! (For inspiration, check out Alex’s all-time favorite entry.)

Please join us to film the final scenes in and outside Resistor on Thursday, 23 August between 7:30 and 9:30 PM. And do feel free to share this announcement on social media. We look forward to dancing with you soon!

EAGLE Weekend Photos

Thanks to all who came out for our Autodesk EAGLE meetup and classes this past weekend! It was a whirlwind of PCB design fun. Read on for more photos.

We ate pizza Friday night while dipping a toe into what the weekend had in store.

The Saturday intro class used Tinkercad Circuits to ease the transition from breadboard to schematic.

Here’s TA Sophi Kravitz with her flashy new mousepad…

Special thanks to instructor Matt Berggren and EAGLE teammates Edwin and Aish for traveling to be with us. We hope you’ll come back soon!
